Franklin Elementary School first opened in the fall of 1990 at the California School for the Deaf in Riverside. The current site opened in 1992, and stands on what was once fields of orange groves, hence the name of the community, Orangecrest. Franklin was the first school in Riverside Unified School District to be built in the Orangecrest area. A small orange grove stands at the entrance to our school to commemorate our citrus heritage.
In the spirit of Benjamin Franklin, one of our Founding Fathers, we are known as the Franklin Flyers, symbolized by a kite; our commitment to discovery and innovation is symbolized by the bolt of lightening and key. Franklin has been named a California Distinguished School in 1993, 2002, 2006 and 2010. In January of 2017 Franklin was approved as a Core Knowledge school.
